February 2008

Home Front, a VisualAid curated group exhibition including paintings by Michael Beck, is on display at the Marin Community Foundation from February 29 to May 27.

Beginning on February 6, Gage Opdenbrouw is teaching a painting class at the A. Muse Gallery, 614 Alabama Street (between 18th & 19th), in San Francisco, 415-279-6281, weekly through April 16.

West Marin Color & Light Paintings, an exhibition of Judy Molyneux works, is on display at Claudia Chapline Contemporary Art, 3445 Shoreline Highway, Stinson Beach, 415-868-2308, from February 2 to February 24. Open Saturday-Sunday 12 noon-5:00 pm and by appointment.

Danger Girl, new paintings by Eileen Starr Moderbacher, are on display at Mission 17, 2111 Mission Street #401 in San Francisco, 510-467-4818, from February 1 to March 8. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 3-6 pm or by appointment. Reception: Friday, February 1, 6-9 pm.

January

Gage Opdenbrouw is participating in a group show with "fellow Academy Grads and Maverix Studios Artists" at Temporary Gallery Space, 180 Seventh Street #102 (between Mission and Howard), San Francisco, from January 31 to around February 16. Open Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm; Saturday 10 am-3 pm. Reception: Thursday, January 31, 6-late pm.

Two paintings by Michael Beck, Senior Security and Leaving Home, have been accepted for the 22nd Annual International Juried Show at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey The show's juror, Carter Foster, is currently Curator and Curator of Drawings at the Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art in New York.

Paintings by Judy Molyneux are on display at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery, Fort Mason, Building A, San Francisco, 415-441-4777, from January 9 to February 1. Open Tuesday-Saturday 11:30 am-5:30 pm. Reception: Wednesday, January 9, 5:30-7:30 pm.

Several Silence and Distance paintings by Gage Opdenbrouw are on display in the lobby of the office building at 50 Fremont Street (at Mission) in San Francisco, from January 2 through February 23. Open 8 am-6 pm. Reception: Wednesday, January 30 from 5:15-7:15 pm.

Eileen Starr Moderbacher's painting Over the River is on display as part of Annual Members' 2007 Showcase at the Berkeley Art Center, 1278 Walnut Street, Berkeley, 510-644-6893, from December 9 to January 13, 2008. Open Wednesday-Sunday, noon-5 pm.

An exhibition of works by The Outsiders - Nikki Basch-Davis, Pam Glover, Ray Jackson, Judy Molyneux, William Rushton, Randy Sexton and Jerrold Turner - is on display at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, 1930 R Street, Bakersfield, 661-323-7219, from December 6 to February 25, 2008, in the Ablin Gallery. Open Tuesday-Friday, 10-4 pm, Thursdays until 7:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday noon-4 pm.

Frank Ryan has been included in the December 2007/January 2008 Pacific Coast issue of New American Paintings 73. With over five thousand artists reviewed annually, it has become Amercia's largest and most important series of artist competitions. Featured artists are selected on the basis of artistic merit and provided space for free.

November

Paintings by Eileen Starr Moderbacher and Gage Opdenbrouw are included in the little show at the Swarm Gallery, 560 Second Street, Oakland, 510-839-2787, from November  24 to December 23. Open Tuesday-Sunday, 12-6 pm.

Michael Beck has been presented with the Honorable Award for his painting Standing Ovation by ARTOTEQUE in their annual work on display competition. He submitted these paintings to the competition.

Embracing the Future with Open Arms, a painting by Gage Opdenbrouw, is part of the Galeria de la Raza annual art auction, Pachanga 07. The auction is on Saturday, November 17, beginning at 7 pm at the Galeria, 2857 24th Street (at Bryant), in San Francisco, 415-826-8009. Admission is $20-50 (sliding scale) and bidding begins at 25-30% of the artwork's listed price.

Paintings by Judy Molyneux are on display at the 142 Throckmorton Theater, Mill Valley, CA, 415-383-9600, from November 6 to December 1.

Michael Beck is participating in The Toy Show, a group show at Hunsaker/Schlesinger Fine Art, 2525 Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica, CA, 310-828-1133, in Bergamot Station, from November 3 to December 22.

October

Tor Archer created a unique mirror which is being auctioned at the Imagine Bus Project art is in the air benefit on Wednesday, October 17, from 6-9 pm at the Regency Center, Lodge Level, 1290 Sutter Street at Van Ness in San Francisco, 415-229-9197.

Several pieces of sculpture by Cedric Wentworth are on display in the lobby of the office building at 425 Market Street (at Fremont), San Francisco, from October 6 through November 24.

September

Judy Molyneux has been selected for the Talent 2007 exhibition at the Alan Stone Gallery, 113 East 90th Street, New York, NY, 212-987-4997. Several of her paintings are on display from September 15 to October 20. Open Tuesday-Friday, 10-6 pm; Saturday 10-5 pm.

Paintings by Eileen Starr Moderbacher are on display at the Affair@the Jupiter Hotel in Portland, Oregon. Swarm Gallery of Oakland is showing her work. The Jupiter Hotel is at 800 East Burnside Street, Portland, and is open to the public (admission $5) from noon-7 pm on Saturday & Sunday, September 15 & September 16. Noah Phyllis Levin's Vagabond 3 is on display at the Hayes Valley Market, 580 Hayes Street (at Laguna), July 6 to 29, in a fund raising exhibition organized by Modern Tea, and benefiting the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Parks Group and The Press Institute. Open Sunday-Thursday, noon-6 pm; Friday & Saturday, noon-9 pm.

Eileen Starr Moderbacher's Military Industrial Complex is being auctioned in The Most Curatorial Biennial of the Universe at apexart, 291 Church Street (between Walker and White) in New York, 212-431-5270, from July 7 to August 11. Works are available for purchase and all proceeds will provide the Robin Hood Foundation of New York City with additional funds to do more good for the city's disadvantaged. Gage Opdenbrouw is showing his work at the Affaire in the Gardens Art Show on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, from 10 am to 6 pm at the Beverly Gardens Park, on Santa Monica Boulevard between Rodeo Drive and Rexford Drive in Beverly Hills, CA.

Gage Opdenbrouw is participating in the Mission Open Studios on Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13, from 11 am to 5 pm. Opening reception Friday, May 11 from 7 pm to 11 pm. Gage's studio is at Compound 21, 2498-A Harrison Street at 21st Street in San Francisco.
